- Qualified and admitted to practice in Hong Kong in 1979 as a Solicitor of the High Court;
- Admitted to practice in the UK (1983), ACT in Australia (1989) and Singapore (1990);
- China-appointed attesting officer since October 1995;
- Accredited risk-management tutor of the Law Society of Hong Kong since 2004;
- Diploma awarded by Harvard Business School on Negotiations Skills in 2008;
- Accredited general mediator of the Law Society of Hong Kong since June 2011 and member of the Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Limited since 2013;
- Civil Celebrant of Marriage (H.K.) since 2006; and
- Reverse Mortgage Counsellor since 2015.

Community Services
One of Alan Lam’s motivations to enter the legal profession was his desire to help people. Community service remains an important aspect of Alan’s professional and non-professional life. Some of Alan’s community engagements are listed below:
- Served in various positions including as Council Member and as Honorary Secretary of The Hong Kong Racehorse Owners Association (from 1993-2000);
- Served on the legal sub-committee of The Hong Kong Golf Club for 2 terms as well as on the finance sub-committee (1998-1999) since becoming a member thereof since 1978;
- Served as part-time accredited Risk Management tutor since 2004, gave numerous lectures and courses for the Law Society of Hong Kong and the Academy of Law on topics including but not limited to litigation risks, fraud, anti-money laundering, human resources management, commercial drafting, advanced risk analysis and business continuity management risks, crisis management, reputation risks, conflicts and confidentiality;
- Served on the Risk Management Accreditation Committee of the Law Society of Hong Kong since 2011;
- Delivered community talks to diverse audiences from secondary school students to the elderly, on different legal topics including criminal law, internet crimes, wills & probate, enduring powers of attorney and advanced directives; and
- Offered pro bono legal consultations to organizations including the Diocesan Boys’ School.
Notable Transactions and Achievements
- Has handled/been in charge of over 500 personal injuries claims cases since 1983;
- Has handled/been in charge of over 500 divorce cases (contentious & non-contentious) since 1983;
- Appointed as joint legal adviser (with Linklaters) to The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited on its reconstitution in 1993;
- Opened up an official branch office in Shanghai in 1994 after being one of the first batch of only twelve (12) law firms worldwide selected by the Ministry of Justice, People’s Republic of China, in 1993 to be granted permission to open an official branch in the P.R.C.;
- Has handled/been in charge of over 2000 Home Ownership Scheme (H.O.S.) units for The Hong Kong Housing Authority including Tak Nga Court, Tai Po and Kam Fung Court, Shatin and over 5000 units of private–sector Consent & Non-Consent Scheme conveyancing work since 1983;
- Has handled/handling project conveyancing and commercial leasing for one of the 4 major property developers in Hong Kong for over 25 years;
- Has assisted clients with negotiations, A.D.R. and advisory in hundreds of commercial ventures & has drafted commercial agreements including Joint Venture Agreements, shareholders’ Agreements, licensing/franchise agreements and employment agreements in both English & Chinese;
- Successfully defended a Japanese company operating in Thailand in an arbitration case heard in 2011 under HKIAC Rules against the wrongful termination of a golf sponsorship contract in Thailand;
- Successfully defended a Beddoe application against HSBC Trustee (H.K.) Limited on behalf of the beneficiaries of an estate (2011); and
- Held/holding Independent Non-executive directorships with various listed companies including Shun Ho Construction Limited and Citic Limited (formerly known as Citic Pacific Limited Stock Code: No. 267) (from 19921996) and Kwong Sang Hong Limited (from 19992005); Sincere Watch (H.K.) Limited (Stock Code: No. 444) March 2009 to June 2012; GME Group Holdings Limited (Stock Code: No. 8188) (from 10th February 2017).
